A Secret to Get Your First 1,000 Followers on Quora Quickly

If you're a Quora user, you'd know the difference between 999 and 1k followers on a Quora profile. Let me also tell you upfront, using my experience of getting 21k+ followers on Quora, that it becomes relatively easier to get more followers on Quora after your first 1,000 followers (and I will be sharing ahead why that is the case). So, if you're someone looking to hit that 1k mark on Quora as soon as possible, this post is for you.

The Charm of 1k Followers

Before I reveal the secret, I just want to bring your attention to the reason why 1k seems far greater than 999 when it comes to Quora. Well, the simple reason is that we, as Quora readers, set a certain benchmark in our minds to evaluate the quality of writers on Quora.

That benchmark often gets influenced by the number of followers an individual has on Quora which in turn psychologically encourages us to hit the Upvote or the Follow button for that individual.

Let me share a personal example. I never follow someone without checking out their Quora profile and what often compels me to go and read someone's answers is the number of followers they have. Sure, I still read the answers of a Quora writer with less than 1k followers, but I cannot miss visiting the profile of an individual who has 1k followers on Quora.

That is because, in my mind, 1k followers represent 'some value' being generated for others (it's highly unlikely that all the followers are personal contacts). So, I like to understand what kind of value the individual is creating on Quora which is what compels me to visit his/her profile and often follow if the value is relevant for me.

This is the reason that the road from 100 to 1,000 followers on Quora is a much longer one as compared to the road afterwards. So, once you hit the 1k mark, getting the rest will be comparatively easier.

Secret Sauce to 1k Followers

If you read the suggestions given by most people on Quora to grow your followers quickly, you would see a mention of easy tricks like writing on famous topics - India, Politics, etc. Let me tell you something - those tricks can work. But, the question is - do you just want followers or do you want relevant followers?

Everyone wants to be known, but everyone doesn't want to be known for everything. You have to understand that whatever you write on Quora is going to be read by other people. So, make sure you are very clear on what you don't want to be known for, it's okay if you don't know what you want to be known for, we'll cover that ahead.

The rest of this post will assume that you don't want to get followers by writing about philosophy, politics or any such famous topic. I totally respect and love to read answers of Quorans who write on these topics, but their road to 1,000 followers is slightly different and will not be covered in this post.

Finding Niches

So, the first thing you need to do is find niches you can write about.

A niche is a small, specialized section of a larger population.

For example, Kirori Mal College is a niche under the Delhi University population.

In an earlier post, I've shared a concrete strategy to find blog niches. You can apply the same to Quora topics. Another way is to simply list down all the things:

  • you know/love

  • you want to know

  • you want to be known for

Expanding the List

Don't just stop after creating the list above. You need to build on that list using 'Seed Keywords'. Let me explain what this SEO term means.

A seed keyword is the 'head' or 'main' keyword that can be built upon.

For example, IIM is a seed keyword which can be further built into IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Admissions, etc.

I love a tool that helps you do that for free and so seamlessly. It's called Soovle. Simply type your seed keyword and Soovle will show you the top keywords that are following it on different search engines:

Note down all these terms and add them to your niches list. Expand it as much as possible.

Choosing a Niche

Now you need to narrow down the list of your eligible niches and choose the ones that will pay off the most - the secret sauce to getting more Quora followers quickly! You can do this in 3 simple steps:

1. Go to Quora and type in your niche names one-by-one in the Search Box. Now, click on the ones that have Topics for their names.

2. Check how many followers and questions the topic has. You can find an estimated number of questions under the Read and Answer tabs.

3. Check the number of answers and answer views the most viewed writers have (basis last 30 days). Focus on the individual on #10 in this list and check the statistics for that individual in the list.

Now, you need to choose the niches that have:

  • Higher Followers

  • Higher Questions

  • Lower Answers

  • Lower Answer Views

The logic behind carrying out this exercise is to identify the small ponds where you can be the big fish.

Benefits of this Strategy

Let me tell you what this strategy can do to get you more Quora followers instantly. First of all, when you become one of the most viewed writers of a particular topic, Quora sends you a notification. This means Quora recognizes and gives you a credibility point which you can add to your credentials.

Secondly, when you become a part of the most viewed writers list of a particular topic, you start getting requests for the questions that get asked on that topic. Quora will make sure to include you in the top 25 recommended people's list which it will present to someone who requests an answer on your niche topic.

So, in a way, Quora will direct more and more relevant traffic towards you to cater to. See how you will no longer be required to find the relevant followers, instead, they will find you automatically, thanks to Quora.

The more you answer questions on those topics, the more people who benefit from them will visit your profile, read other answers of similar kind and get hooked to your profile. That's how you generate more and more opportunities for them to follow you.

I use this strategy whenever I wish to broaden my reach in a new niche and it works every single time. Recently, I started writing on blogging and using this strategy, I got 500+ relevant followers in less than 10 days. Trust me, it really helps in growing Quora followers.

The more quality niches you pick, the more your chances of becoming the most viewed writer and the more your chances to receive relevant questions, which you can answer and get the users to follow you.

So, this is the strategy I wanted to share with you to get to your first 1,000 followers on Quora quickly. Hope it helps you. You can reach out to me if you have a follow-up.
